Takeaways on Aviation Safety with Tim Wade

My top highlights from my podcast today (Spotify link, iTunes link) with Tim Wade, Director of Environmental Health and Safety at FlexJet:

  1. Aviation is hyper-focused on safety, which is amplified by any incident of any severity hitting national headlines. Media on aviation safety, without data on incidents by miles flown, doesn’t tell the full story.

  2. The message of safety isn’t changing, costing attention from passengers and the industry, which means the way the information is conveyed has to change and innovate.

  3. Lead with a servant’s heart, safety is about trust.

  4. Video is the best content mediums for safety training.

  5. “Safety at all costs” isn’t a useful mindset within a business.

  6. Need leadership alignment and ongoing communication for safety to be valued across the company.

  7. Measure as much as possible.

  8. We aren’t as good as we think we are, and risk complacency.

We’re also on YouTube now! Check out the channel here, and let me know if you’re a YouTube podcast listener vs just audio.

Tim and I met as I’ve explored aviation services, primarily maintenance in business aviation and commercial, for my search, Airframe Group.

If you’re an aviation geek like me, or run an business within aviation, I’d love to chat!
